Observation captures behavior. Ground truth explains intent, choice and outcome.
Passive observation can show what occurred, but it often cannot reliably determine what a person intended, noticed, preferred, corrected, or considered successful.
The person experiencing an event can provide ground truth that observation alone cannot reliably reconstruct.
